With so many talented Improv/New Music vocalists around, it can‘t be easy for a relative newcomer to carve out a distinctive niche. Nevertheless, Swiss singer Franziska Baumann has achieved this with her debut CD. Vocal Suite is a one woman performance, involving multitracked vocals that range from the loquacious ("Elegy") and ethereal ("Atemtango"). "Micro Tone" typifies her disciplined compositional methods, carefully applying extra tone colours with evocative flutes and electronics. It is a debut well worth investigating."
